(WHTM)– Former West Chester University President Christopher M. Fiorentino will serve as the interim chancellor of the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, according to PASSHE.

Fiorentino was unanimously appointed by the board and will begin serving at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, PASSHE says.

This advancement comes as current chancellor Dan Greenstein completes his service to the State System. Fiorentino will serve as interim chancellor until the Board of Governors finds the next system chancellor.

PASSHE says that Fiorentino does not plan to take up a full-time position.

“I am honored to continue my service to the students, faculty and staff of PASSHE as we build on the tremendous progress the State System has made under Chancellor Dan Greenstein during the past six years,” said Fiorentino. “My focus will be to continue moving the State System forward with the priorities established by the Board and Dr. Greenstein. PASSHE remains committed to accountability and transparency as we further align the system with Pennsylvania’s needs.

West Chester University was the largest university under PASSHE during Fiorentino’s time as president, according to PASSHE.

“Chris Fiorentino was an outstanding president at West Chester University and is highly respected throughout the State System and the Commonwealth,” s aid Board Chair Cynthia Shapira, Ed.D. “He began his career at West Chester in the same year that PASSHE was established, so he brings tremendous experience, knowledge and wisdom to the role of interim chancellor.”

The Philadelphia Business Journal named Fiorention to its Power 100 list in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and he was inducted into the Chester County Hall of Fame in May, PASSHE said.
