Aurora borealis shines over Midstate

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Take a look to the northern skies! The aurora borealis is shining bright over the Midstate tonight.

The northern lights could be seen shining above the abc27 studios in Harrisburg and points across Pennsylvania.

Viewers have reported seeing the lights all across the viewing area and beyond from Lewistown to Wellsville and all points in between.

Some kids in the SASY Soccer program took in the sights at practice.

The light show is thanks to a severe solar storm impacting Earth.

Earlier this week, a massive solar flare was detected on the Sun, followed by a fast-moving coronal mass ejection (CME) directed toward Earth.
