Cumberland Valley School District concludes investigation into cheerleading program

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– The Cumberland Valley School District said they concluded their extensive investigation into allegations of bullying and other inappropriate behavior made against the varsity cheerleading staff.

Parents and students in the Cumberland Valley School District began coming forward with allegations of bullying, violations of antidiscrimination laws, and other related behavior against the High School’s cheerleading staff in June, leading the school district to launch an investigation.

The board said they called in an outside law firm to spearhead the investigation, which involved a comprehensive review of all claims, testimonies, and evidence from all parties involved.

As the investigation came to an end, the board said the independent firm found no evidence to support the allegations made against the coaches.

With that being said, the firm made recommendations to the district regarding coaching practices and oversight of athletic programs.

The board says that the administration will support keeping the current coaching staff based on the firm’s recommendations and will implement measures to ensure accountability within its athletic programs.

The district board did not provide details on the measures being implemented but said they will continue to take necessary actions to uphold standards.
