LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Three attempted kidnappings and an assault in Lancaster County have landed a man in jail with bail denied, police say.

Jared Sweigard, 43, of Enola, is accused of trying to kidnap multiple people, including a child early Sunday morning in East Donegal Township, according to the charges filed by Susquehanna Regional Police.

Police said Sweigard was taken into custody after he was stopped by police in a traffic stop in Lancaster City. A “BOLO” with his vehicle and clothing description was sent throughout the county.

Police got a report about a man, later identified as Sweigard, driving in a silver color pickup truck that parked next to a woman’s vehicle. Sweigard allegedly got out of the truck and tried opening her door, the criminal complaint states.

After arriving in the area, in the 1000 block of River Road, police learned there were three alleged victims, who stated that Sweigard tried pulling on the locked car door handles, according to the complaint.

Police quickly learned about another attempted kidnapping after being flagged down while they were at Sheetz. Sweigard allegedly told a young girl “You have five seconds to get into my vehicle,” twice after he pulled up next to her in his truck, the complaint states.

According to police, they got another report about Sweigard assaulting a man, grabbing a woman, and then trying to pull her down a flight of stairs while they were still investigating the previous attempted kidnapping.

Sweigard allegedly admitted to police that he wanted to terrorize the victims, the complaint states.

Sweigard faces four felony charges of attempted kidnapping to inflict injury/terror and a felony charge of attempted kidnapping of a minor. He also faces misdemeanor charges of false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, and loitering and prowling at night time, along with a summary charge of harassment.

Sweigard is currently locked up in prison with bail denied and awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 21.
