ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — An Adams County family is turning their grief into action.

Jonny Tomasello took his own life in December 2023 due to bullying. The 15-year-old was a freshman at Bermudian Springs High School. He had autism. In response to the tragedy, his family created “Jonny’s Flight,” a non-profit that aims to raise awareness of autism, end bullying, and help other kids live out Jonny’s dream of becoming a pilot.

“Jonathan wanted to be a pilot, but he unfortunately will not be able to realize that dream on this Earth,” said his mother, Natalie Tomasello. “But, we want to afford other children that opportunity. So, we will be launching a scholarship program for young people to get their pilot’s license.”

On October 27, Jonny’s Flight will host the Jonny Tomasello Memorial 5k and Community Day at 10 a.m. to fight against bullying, raise awareness to prevent suicide, and raise money to give resources to autistic youth. The day will host music, food trucks, vendors, games, and many activities, including a car raffle.

The non-profit partnered with Ciocca Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Hanover to raffle off a 2024 Jeep Compas Latitude. The Community Day website says if people want tickets for the car raffle, they can reach out to the family through their Facebook page or email jonnysflight@gmail.com . Only 350 tickets are planned to be sold.

The family also told abc27 that Janelle Brown from Sister Wives plans to attend the event. She has an unfortunate similarity, as her 25-year-old son took his life this past March.
