DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) – Derry Township Police are warning residents of scammers impersonating officers trying to collect money.

Police say the scammers are contacting residents claiming they missed jury duty and must pay fines through “unconventional methods.”

The scammers are also spoofing the police department’s phone number to make the calls appear as if they’re coming from the police.

The department is reminding residents that they do not handle jury matters and will never ask for residents to pay fines or costs by purchasing money orders, gift cards, or Bitcoin.

If you receive one of these calls, do not provide any financial information and contact the police immediately.
