CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA (WHTM) — The Pledge of Allegiance is something that most of us have said more times than we can count, but today it had a little extra meaning.

Earlier today in York County, 16 people from 11 different countries recited our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance for the first time as United States citizens.

When asked how it felt to put their hands on their hearts to make that pledge, Brazil-born Luana Kwasnjuk spoke about how proud it made her feel.

“Becoming a citizen – it means a lot to me because of all the effort and all the people that supported me throughout the way. Just being an American – it’s a great country and I am really proud to be a part of it.”

This naturalization ceremony was held by York County’s Prothonotary, which holds these events about three times a year.

ABC27 News congratulates all 16 of the new United States citizens!
