(WHTM)– Pennsylvania’s autumn colors are becoming more prominent across the state as we get further into fall, and nature lovers are looking for the best places to see the foliage.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources released its updated Pennsylvania Fall Foliage map on Thursday, showing the best places to see foliage this week.

Right now is the perfect time to go out and see some of Pennsyvlania’s natural colors, as much of the mid and northern parts of the state is reaching its best foliage color. Peaking foliage can be found in Tioga, Lycoming, Wyoming, Columbia, Centre, Union, Snyder, Northumberland, Lehigh, Northampton, Schuylkill, Carbon, Montour, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Monroe, Crawford, Erie, Mercer, Lawrence, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Cameron, Elk Warren, Forest, Indiana, Armstrong, Westmoreland, Clarion, Cambria, and Venango counties.

Midstate residents can also admire peaking foliage in their backyards in Mifflin, Juniata, and Perry counties.

Many northern Pennsylvania counties have already reached their peak and are beginning to fade. As for the southern part of the state, there is still some time to go before the best colors come out.

    • Dark Green/Little to No Change= peak is three weeks to a month away
    • Light Green/Starting to Change= peak is approximately two to three weeks away
    • Yellow/Approaching Best Color= peak is approximately one week away
    • Orange/Best Color= foliage is peaking this week
    • Red/Starting to Fade= still some nice color but won’t last more than a few more days
    • Brown/Past Peak= all or nearly all color is gone

The DCNR said consistent cold nights and cool days have spurred a colorful change across Pennsylvania faster than anticipated. They said, “Bright color can be found from the southern Poconos through the middle and southern Appalachians.”

They added that the Southeastern forests are catching up.
