Clovis native aims to give back to community with self-care

Man and woman's bodies recovered from water at Angel Falls in Madera County, deputies say
The bodies of a man and a woman have been recovered from the water following search and rescue efforts at Angel Falls in Madera County.The Madera County Sheriff's Office says they received a "frantic" 911 call about a woman in the water just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.As the sheriff's office responded to the scene, deputies spotted that woman's body. They also found the belongings of a man nearby.Both victims' bodies have now been recovered and are being flown out of the area in a California Highway Patrol helicopter to meet staff from the coroner's office.It's unknown how they ended up in the water.Deputies also responded to a second search and rescue call near Lewis Creek, which is near Angel Falls.In that rescue, one woman needed to be carried out of the water after suffering a broken leg.Stay with ABC30 for the latest details on this developing story.
Busy Clovis road back open following construction closure
A busy Clovis roadway is now back open after being closed for months due to construction.Traffic is moving once again along Shepherd Avenue between Fowler Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.The closure started at the beginning of January.The road was supposed to be back open in April, but that deadline needed to be pushed out a bit due to weather and other delays.Sunnyside Avenue between Perrin Road and Shepherd Avenue remains closed, but should open in a few weeks.

$2.2M Sidewalk Improvement Project kicks off in Ivanhoe
A groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday morning marks the start of the Road 160 Sidewalk Improvement Project in Ivanhoe.The $2.2 million project will focus on adding sidewalks between Avenue 328 to Avenue 332.The half a mile stretch is used year round by students heading to Ivanhoe Elementary.Sandra Aguilera is the school's Principal.She says over 300 of her 500 students walk to campus.This safer route to school will provide a peace of mind for local educators and parents."Priority is always safety. Man convicted of attempting to kidnap professor testifies as jury weighs insanity defense
The Fresno man now convicted of trying to kidnap his professor was back on the stand in court on Tuesday.Rodolfo Brambila is trying to convince a jury that he was insane in December 2020 when he held his professor against her will in her backyard."I had stopped going to class. 14-year-old arrested for deadly shooting in Merced that stemmed from money and prostitution: PD
A 14-year-old has been arrested for a deadly shooting in Merced.The homicide happened before 4 pm Saturday on Conestoga Drive near Austin Avenue.Police say the teenager and a 41-year-old man got into an argument over drug money and the prostitution of a woman who was in the home.That's when authorities say the 14-year-old shot the 41-year-old.The victim was declared dead at the scene."The shooting occurred over some narcotic sales and possible prostitution that was going on inside of the home," said Merced Police Sergeant Jeremy Salyers.After the shooting, Salyers says the teenager escaped to San Jose.With the help of witnesses...

Madera Community Hospital gets first installment of loan to reopen
Madera Community Hospital is getting closer to reopening after closing in January 2023.State Treasurer Fiona Ma says the hospital has now received the first installment of its $57 million loan granted through the state's Distressed Hospital Loan Program.This initial amount is $15 million.The state says additional installments will be issued as the hospital shows a need for cashflow related to its larger reopening and turnaround plan.The loan will have to be paid back over six years.Those payments are expected to start a year and a half after the loan term begins.
