15-year-old gang member arrested for shooting 19-year-old woman in Sanger
A 15-year-old boy is now in custody for a shooting that hospitalized a 19-year-old woman in Sanger.The teen, who is a known gang member to police, was arrested Wednesday morning following a search warrant at a home on Lynn Court.He was booked into Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center on multiple felony charges, including attempted homicide.Officers responded to a call of an injured person just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, in the area of Church and Brehler avenues, near the Walmart Supercenter.When they arrived, they found 19-year-old Rosalynn Moreno of Madera with a gunshot wound to her neck and 18-year-old Juan Manuel Morales with minor injuries.Investigators say Moreno and Morales, along with three other friends, were driving near Greenwood and Church avenues when they saw the teen suspect.After an exchange of words, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at their car. Bitwise co-founders officially plead guilty to charges

Judge temporarily halts state plan to monitor groundwater use in crop-rich California region
A judge has temporarily blocked a plan by a California state water board to take over monitoring groundwater use in a portion of the crop-rich San Joaquin Valley, according to a copy of the decision obtained Tuesday.Kings County Superior Court Judge Kathy Ciuffini issued a temporary restraining order halting the State Water Resources Control Board's plan for the Tulare Lake Subbasin until an Aug. 20 hearing. Suspect pleads not guilty in shooting that killed man in Corcoran
The man accused of a deadly shooting in Corcoran pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.27-year-old Alex Barrera was charged last week in the murder of 40-year-old Jason Pico.On July 2nd, Pico crashed his car through a fence at a child care center on Dairy and Hanna Avenues.As officers tried to revive Pico, they discovered he had been shot.There's no word yet on a motive for the shooting.

Fresno Unified allocates more than $100 million to 'Every Child is a Reader' initiative
As the Fresno Unified School District aims to make sure every student is reading at grade level by the end of first grade, Chief Academic Officer Natasha Baker, Ed. City of Fresno passes funding for organizations, venues supporting arts
The City of Fresno is moving forward with funding for local organizations and venues supporting the arts following delays that led to some frustration.The city says the item on Measure P funding allocation passed unanimously Monday night.That means $8 million will be released to groups.The "Labyrinth Art Collective" in the Tower District was one of 70 applicants approved for funds but were forced to wait after the process was appealed.They took to social media to voice their concerns about the delay and thanked the community for their support ahead of and during Monday's hearing.A 10-day appeal period has started for those who didn't get approved.
