Thousands of chickens burned in fire in Merced County, officials say
A fire at JS West Farming company resulted in a major loss of both the building and chickens.Merced County Fire responded to fire on Sunday at around 7:40 pm.When crews arrived, they found heavy black smoke revealing that 50% of the 50,000 square-foot building was involved in the fire.Officials say roughly 170,000 chickens were burned in the fire.The cause is still under investigation.

Road closure in Central Fresno due to high-speed rail work
A road closure in Central Fresno may impact your work week commute.Starting Monday, both directions of McKinley Avenue between Highway 99 and West Avenue will be closed due to construction.The 99 off-ramp to McKinley will also be closed.The closure is due to the high-speed rail grade separation and the realignment of the McKinley and Golden State Boulevard intersection.Officials say the closure is expected to last a year.Drivers are asked to use Clinton and Olive Avenues or find an alternate route.

A recent graduate from Reedley High School has died after a battle with stage four cancer, according to his family.On Monday night, Malachi Rios' mother announced his passing in a Facebook post, where she thanked him for the memories and love he brought into many lives.Earlier this year, Malachi went to Cancun, Mexico to a center that offers a holistic approach to treatment.Family members say the treatment did not work and that his cancer spread.Malachi was diagnosed in late 2022 with stage four testicular cancer that spread throughout his body.He went into remission last May but his cancer later returned.Doctors...

A man is dead after being hit by a train in Merced County.Merced County sheriff's deputies responded to the scene Monday morning near 16th Street and Southern Pacific Avenue, just outside of Merced.Officials say a man was hit by a train and then landed in a nearby canal.He died at the scene due to his injuries.Authorities say the incident is still under investigation.

2 women rescued from house fire in northwest Fresno, officials say
Crews are investigating what led to a house fire in northwest Fresno.It broke out at about 2:30 am Monday at a home on Alva Avenue -- that's near Bullard and Marty.Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the attic.They soon called in a second alarm for the fire.Crews were told by a woman that two other elderly ladies were inside the home.Officials say they were pulled out of the home but did not appear to have any injuries.Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the attic.The cause of the fire is under investigation.No firefighters were injured.
22-year-old man hospitalized after being hit by vehicle in Visalia, police say
A man is in the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in Visalia on Sunday afternoon.The crash happened around 2 pm in the intersection of Demaree Street and Walnut avenue.Visalia police say a 22-year-old man was taken to the hospital with major injuries.The driver pulled over after the crash and cooperated with the investigation.Officials say drugs and alcohol were not involved in the accident.
Man found shot inside vehicle in yard of Tulare home, police say
A man is in the hospital after he was shot in a Tulare neighborhood on Saturday night.The shooting happened around 10:45 pm in the area of H Street and Kern Avenue.Tulare police say the man was found shot inside of his vehicle, which was in the yard of a nearby home.The man was taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Detective Leonel Alvarez at 559-685-2300, ext. 2149.
