Suspect wanted for trying to kidnap women from Madera County walking trail, deputies say
Deputies are working to find a man who has tried to kidnap women from a walking trail on two separate occasions in Madera County.The latest kidnapping attempt happened around 9:45 am Wednesday on the Granada Trail along the Fresno River near Road 23 and Avenue 15.The Madera County Sheriff's Office says the man tried to put something in a woman's mouth while he struggled to grab a hold of her.Officials say the woman was able to break away from the man and call for help, but he ran off with her car keys and earphones.Deputies spent several hours searching the...

Here's something you should never attempt.A video is making the rounds online showing a group of visitors at Yosemite National Park after they jumped a barrier at the top of Vernal Falls.One of them is seen posing for a photo at the edge of the 317-foot drop.The National Park Service warns people not to cross the railings to prevent tragic consequences.
New travel center coming to Tesoro Viejo in Madera County in 2025
New shopping options are coming to a Madera County subdivision.Tesoro Viejo announced it's partnering with Yosemite Travel Center for a new market and gas station.The new shopping area will be on the Southeast Corner of Highway 41 and Tesoro Viejo Boulevard.The development will also include 12 Tesla charging stations, a Jamba Juice and a car wash.The grand opening is scheduled for the end of 2025.

1 killed, 1 hospitalized following head-on crash in Fresno County, CHP says
One person has died and another has been hospitalized following a head-on crash in Fresno County.The California Highway Patrol says it happened on Shaw near Chateau Fresno just after 4 am Wednesday.Officers say a man driving a Hyundai went into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a pickup truck going east on Shaw.The driver of the Hyundai died at the scene. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.Shaw Avenue is closed between Chateau Fresno and Monroe.The man killed has not been identified.Officers have not said if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Woman arrested for leaving baby in hot car in Clovis, police say
A woman has been arrested after police say she left her infant in a hot car in Clovis.Police say it happened at about 4:30 pm on Monday when someone called to report the baby in the car at Willow and Nees.The caller said the car was turned off and the windows were slightly down, but the infant looked warm in their car seat.Officers say the mother and an older child eventually returned to the car. They say the child was left inside for at least 20 minutes while the other two were eating inside a fast food restaurant.Paramedics said the child was warm but overall in good health.Police arrested the mother for felony child endangerment. She was booked into the Fresno County Jail.Both children were given to their father by Child Protective Services.Officers are reminding the community that cars can quickly become dangerously hot, especially during summers in the Central Valley.
American Junior Golf Association holding championship event in Valley
Dozens of the best junior golfers from around the world are competing in Fresno County this week.The American Junior Golf Association is hosting its annual championship event at the Copper River Country Club.Nearly 80 players ages 12 through 19 took part in a qualifying competition on Monday.Ten junior golfers were chosen to continue to the tournament, which begins Tuesday.This is the second year that the event is being held at Copper River.Organizers say having this tournament in the Valley enables local players to compete against kids and teens from other states and other countries."Golf is booming right now, and it's very hard for clubs to give up their course for a junior tournament, so we're super thankful to be here," says Adam Rogers.The organizers teamed up with "Visit Fresno County" to host the competition.A winner will be announced on Thursday.

Man killed in motorcycle crash in Madera County, CHP says
MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has died following a motorcycle crash in Madera County. It happened just before 4 pm Saturday on Highway 49 near Hilltop Lane. The California Highway Patrol says a 27-year-old man was speeding when he made a sharp turn and ended up on the wrong side of the highway.
Man found guilty of 2021 northeast Fresno murder
The man accused in a Fresno murder, armed robbery and carjacking has been found guilty.On Monday, a jury convicted 45-year-old David Hernandez on five counts.Hernandez shot and killed Sarah Hamm in her northeast Fresno apartment in August of 2021.Investigators say the two knew each other.He also robbed a store clerk at gunpoint and stole a car on the same day.A sentencing date has not yet been set.
