Man dies after crashing car into canal near Sanger, authorities say
A man has died after crashing their car into a canal near Sanger.The California Highway Patrol and the Fresno County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene at about 5:45 am Tuesday on Rainbow and California avenues -- that's just outside of sanger.When emergency crews arrived, they found a white Toyota overturned in the canal with reports of someone still inside the car.A man was pulled from the water and declared dead at the scene.He has not yet been identified.The CHP is investigating to determine what caused the crash.

A video going viral of a high school rally in Atwater is raising concerns among parents.Video shared by ABC30 Insider Ryan Attebery shows principal Robert Nunes dancing with the school's mascot.Nunes is initially seated in a chair as the mascot dances in front of him.Then Nunes is seen firing a confetti cannon before trading places with the mascot.Many are calling the dance inappropriate."Could be a good dude. Man has close encounter with bear that broke into Oakhurst mobile home
A man in Oakhurst had a close encounter with a bear that had stolen food one night before coming back for more.Christopher Smith was house-sitting for his mother in her mobile home when an entire bag of dog food disappeared from the laundry room last week.He thought racoons had eaten it.But the next night, a big bear got into the home.Smith says he instinctively rushed to protect his two children and pets.Then the bear swiped at his foot, injuring him."The fear hit first and then the adrenaline hit and as soon as the adrenaline hit, all the thoughts came in of what I need to do and how short of a time I might have for this bear to get over the washer and dryer, get through the door an get into the house," recalled Smith.Smith says the bear seemed to have a routine and came around the mobile home for at least four nights around midnight.The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating the encounter, including DNA from Smith's injuries.Officials say the results will determine if the bear will be relocated.

The family of a woman who was killed outside a Merced party in 2023 is continuing to fight for justice.The victim's loved ones say Kaylie Lynn Allen was near Grogan and West Avenues when she was shot and killed.Tears fell from Cheryl Dunigan's face as she remembered her granddaughter."If you were friends with her, you were friends for life. She always stuck up for the underdog. She loved animals, very caring. Suspect in deadly downtown Fresno hit-and-run to face a jury
In court Monday, a Fresno County judge ruled there is enough evidence for Marc Cain Rodriguez to go to trial.He's accused of killing 19-year-old Hannah Pimentel in a downtown Fresno hit-and-run crash back in May of 2021.Investigators say Rodriguez is a known gang member and was trying to evade police at the time of the crash.The now 34-year-old was later arrested in Arizona.He pleaded not guilty in July 2021.ABC30 legal analyst Tony Capozzi says the defense may argue Rodriguez was not the driver."Does he have other witnesses that can say he was at home at the time? 23-year-old man stabbed to death in east central Fresno identified
The man who was stabbed to death in east central Fresno has been identified as 23-year-old Jared Rogers.The stabbing happened after midnight on August 16 at Martin Ray Reilly Park on Chestnut and Turner Avenues.Police were initially called out for a welfare check on an adult who appeared to be bleeding.When officers arrived, they found Rogers lying in a parking stall with multiple stab wounds.He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.Officers say Rogers was involved in a fight at the park that led to the stabbing. 21-year-old shot and killed in southwest Fresno identified
The man who was shot and killed in southwest Fresno has been identified as 21-year-old Christopher Worthy.Police say it happened after 1 am on August 17 near Santa Clara Avenue and B Street.Authorities say Worthy was involved in an argument before the shooting.Officers found him in front of an apartment complex with multiple gunshot wounds.He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.Police say Worthy was a part of a gang, but its not clear if the shooting is gang-related at this point.They also say Worthy has an extensive criminal history.Officers have not released any details on the gunman.For news updates, follow Brianna Willis on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

1 killed in suspected DUI crash in Madera County, deputies say
One person has died following a suspected DUI crash in Madera County.The California Highway Patrol says it happened after 11 pm Sunday on Highway 145 near Toja Road, east of Madera.Officers say the driver of a Dodge Charger was traveling west on the highway when he went into the eastbound lane and hit a Ford truck.The driver of the Ford died at the scene.After the initial crash, officers say a Nissan Rogue hit the Dodge.The Nissan then spun out and was hit by a Toyota Prius, while a Dodge pickup hit the Charger in the middle of the lane.The Charger caught on fire, but officers were able to get the driver out.The drivers of the other cars suffered minor injuries.
1 killed, 1 hospitalized following crash in east central Fresno, police say
One woman is dead and another is in the hospital following a crash in east central Fresno.It happened before 12:30 am Monday at Chestnut and University avenues.Officers say a white truck was going north on Chestnut and collided with an SUV that was turning onto Chestnut.Two women were in the SUV. One of them was thrown from the vehicle and died at the hospital.The other woman's condition has not been released.Authorities say the driver of the truck tried running away but was eventually taken into custody. He is being evaluated for DUI.

Crews reach full containment on wildfire in Madera County
A vegetation fire that burned through more than 170 acres of dry brush in Madera County is now fully contained.CAL FIRE says the flames started just before 5 pm Sunday along Highway 41 and Avenue 11 -- that's near Valley Children's Hospital.The flames started on the side of the roadway and were stopped at the San Joaquin River.CAL FIRE says dry grass, mixed with winds, created a challenge for crews.The cause of the fire is under investigation.
2 arrested for stabbing death of man in Visalia
Two men have been arrested for stabbing a man who was found dead in the middle of a road in Visalia.Detectives arrested 36-year-old Ricardo Perez and 27-year-old Angel Gomez for the stabbing death of 35-year-old Jorge Zavala.Police responded to reports of a man down on Walnut Avenue and Giddings Street around 7 a.m. Thursday.Officers found the man, now identified as Zavala, dead in the roadway.Police say Perez was arrested Friday in the area of Giddings in Visalia and Gomez was arrested in Exeter.Both have been booked into jail on homicide charges.
Man stabbed and killed at park in Central Fresno, police say
The Fresno Police Department is investigating a homicide that left one man dead in East Central Fresno on Sunday morning.Police responded to Martin Ray Reilly Park on Chestnut and Turner Avenues at midnight for a welfare check on an adult who was reported bleeding.Officers found a man injured with multiple stab wounds in the upper body.Medical aid was provided, and the man was taken to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries.Police blocked off the area for several hours and interviewed witnesses.There is no suspect information at this time.If you have any information, you can call the Fresno Police Department.
