    Two dead after driver speeds ‘well over 100 mph’ in Emery County, police pursue

    EMERY COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — Two people were killed in a crash Thursday night while driving at extremely high speeds in Emery County, according to Utah Highway Patrol .

    At around 6:20 p.m., a trooper observed a vehicle speeding on Eastbound I-70 near mile marker 160. The trooper began pursuing the vehicle, which was going “well over 100 mph,” according to Sgt. Cameron Roden, UHP.

    An Emery County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly saw the chase as it was underway and joined the trooper.

    As police were pursuing, the driver swerved into the median and lost control, causing the vehicle to roll. The driver and passenger inside were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

    I-70 was closed in both directions at milepost 160 in Emery County following the crash. One lane has since been reopened.

    The identities of the deceased have not been released at this time.

    No further information is currently available.
