SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Monday, Utah! The pre-dawn hours of Monday brought quite the light show across northern portions of the state, but things are starting to heat up again with scattered showers and storms across Utah.

Monsoonal moisture will keep the threat of heavy rains and flooding in place with the threat area shifting northward towards the Wasatch Front, Cache Valley, and the Uintas.

These storms will bring the risk of strong wind gusts up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, and heavy rain with storms. If you’re near areas with burn scars, be careful, as a higher flood threat will exist in these regions.

Thanks to the widespread coverage of clouds and storms, and a brief dip in the jetstream to our north, temperatures will be a little cooler this afternoon with low 90s for the Wasatch Front and mid to upper 90s for St. George!

The active weather looks to return on Tuesday. A dip in the jet will send another surge of monsoonal moisture north, impacting the Beehive state Tuesday afternoon. The moisture should be a little more confined to the eastern half of the state with potential for strong thunderstorms to form.

Storms that form on Tuesday could dump a lot of rain, which might cause additional flooding in sensitive areas like burn scars and slot canyons. Storms will calm down overnight, but a few could hang around.

By Wednesday, winds from the west will start drying things out from west to east. We’ll still see some storms, especially along the east of the I-15 corridor, but overall, there will be much less activity. Drier air will begin to slide into the region from the west on Thursday and Friday, leading to more sunshine and drier conditions for most of the state.

Temperatures are expected to rebound to near-seasonal highs for the latter half of the week after being a few degrees below average on our Tuesday and Wednesday.

Looks like a more active pattern may once again try to build across the area this weekend. A deep upper-level low off the West Coast and the high-pressure ridge to our southeast will try to help squeeze moisture back to the north into the area.

If the high-pressure ridge is stronger than expected, warmer and drier conditions could return for the weekend. We will keep you updated on the latest developments in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online. We are Good4Utah!
