SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! Active weather has returned Tuesday afternoon bringing thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and powerful winds to parts of Utah.

Monsoonal moisture is in place again bringing the threat of heavy rains and flooding. The threat area is shifting eastward slightly towards the Wasatch Front, Cache Valley, and the Uintas. The moisture should be a little more confined to the eastern half of the state with potential for strong thunderstorms to form.

Storms that form on Tuesday could dump a lot of rain, which might cause additional flooding in sensitive areas like burn scars and slot canyons. Storms will calm down overnight, but a few could hang around.

By Wednesday, winds from the west will start drying things out from west to east. We’ll still see some storms, especially along the I-15 corridor, but overall, there will be much less activity. Drier air will begin to slide into the region from the west on Thursday and Friday, leading to more sunshine and drier conditions for most of the state.

Temperatures are expected to rebound to near-seasonal highs for the latter half of the week, after being a few degrees below average on our Tuesday and Wednesday.

Looks like a more active pattern may once again try to build back in across the area this weekend. A deep upper-level low off the West Coast and the high-pressure ridge to our southeast will try to help squeeze moisture back to the north into the area. If the high-pressure ridge is stronger than expected, warmer and drier conditions could return for the weekend.
