SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Wednesday, Utah! We’re looking at a pretty nice Wednesday around the Beehive state, with mostly sunny skies, and breezy, warm temperatures.

A few isolated pop-up showers will be possible across far eastern and southeastern Utah for our Wednesday afternoon. High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to mid-90s across the northern half of the state, with temps around 101° in St. George.

Monsoon moisture surges back into the state Thursday bringing increased cloud cover, cooler temperatures, and scattered thunderstorms to Utah. The afternoon showers and storms could produce heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding. Especially for areas to the south, which are already pretty saturated.

The flood risk is elevated for Thursday and Friday across central and southern sections of Utah. Along with the threat of flooding, a few of the storms could become strong to severe, especially over eastern Utah.

This could lead to not only heavy rainfall, but microburst gusty winds, and the potential for some small hail. Right now, the greatest risk for severe storms looks to be on Friday afternoon.

A low-pressure system is on a trajectory to skim northern Utah which will finally shake things up in the weather world! Once the low pressure moves by, looks like temperatures drop significantly for the weekend.

Sunday looks to be the coolest day with daytime highs only in the 60s and 70s across the north with overnight lows in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Across southern Utah, a cool-down is likely with daytime highs dropping into the 80s and near 90 with overnight lows in the 50s and 60s. A nice taste of fall around the Beehive state!

As the pressure gradient between high and low pressure strengthens, windy conditions are expected in western Utah Thursday and then state-wide Friday through Saturday. This could spell fire trouble in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for most of western Utah, in effect from Thursday morning through Friday night. Southerly winds will reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Couple that with humidity as low as 8-11% and you have ingredients for rapidly spreading fire. If the forecast stays on track, it will likely be upgraded from a Fire Weather Watch to a Red Flag Warning.

We’ll continue to keep you up-to-date on the latest in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
