SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy weekend, Utah! Our active weather pattern continues this weekend with a cold front moving through the state into Sunday.

For today, plan on mostly sunny skies for much of the state with strong winds remaining. The winds ahead of the front, coupled with very dry air across the western half of the state, will continue to generate critical fire weather conditions through midnight tonight.

Wind gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour are expected with relative humidity down to 5 to 10% for areas in southwest Utah from Iron County and north along I-15 to the Idaho state line.

Wet weather starts to taper off in eastern Utah today, however, lingering moisture could spell more thunderstorms early across far eastern Utah. Later Saturday night, the incoming cold front could bring some storms across far northwestern Utah.

The cold front moving into the state will plummet temperatures over the weekend giving us our first taste of autumn. Tomorrow’s highs will be in the mid to upper 80s for most, and low 90s for the hottest spots.

By Sunday, temperatures will cool even more, and most will struggle to break mid-70s, but the hot spots stay in the low 90s and upper 80s. Temperatures haven’t been in the mid-70s for highs along the Wasatch Front since mid-June.

By early next week, high pressure will gradually return allowing for a nice rebound in daytime highs. Skies are expected to remain mostly clear with near seasonal highs for the state returning on Tuesday.

This means that northern Utah will see highs in the mid to upper 80s through midweek with temperatures in the 90s for southern Utah. Enjoy the taste of fall on Sunday!
