SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A West Valley City man is facing stalking charges after being accused of repeatedly calling several government offices in Salt Lake County and threatening employees, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah .

Ryan Gregory Bracken, 44, is being charged with five counts of stalking, as well as one count of interstate communication of threats, the attorney’s office said in a press release.

In April 2024 alone, Bracken made about 32 calls to several Salt Lake County government offices, per information technology specialists with the county.

The attorney’s office said Bracken called the Salt Lake County Recorder’s Office on April 1 and left a voicemail accusing employees in the office of being guilty of treason. He reportedly “made a point of stating that the penalty for treason is death,” according to officials.

Bracken had called the Recorder’s Office before, and his calls reportedly “became increasingly verbally abusive and threatening,” according to the attorney’s office.

The next day, on April 2, officials said Bracken called the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office and spoke with the sheriff about a “fraudulent” sale on his property. He reportedly threatened to “open fire” if someone went to his property to evict him and referenced his firearm, the attorney’s office said.

“In a separate call on the same day, Bracken made multiple threats that if the Sheriff’s sale of his property occurred, he would hold the Sheriff responsible for treasonous acts and she would swing from a rope,” the attorney’s office said.

Homeland Security Investigations and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case. Bracken is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
