OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested an Ogden man on Monday, Aug. 26 for his alleged role in the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot.

Hal Ray Huddleston, 66, was identified in a press release by U.S. Attorney’s Office as the person involved.

He is charged with a felony offense of obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder. Huddleston was also charged for several misdemeanors including disruptive and disorderly conduct.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated in the release that Huddleston will make his initial appearance in federal court here in Salt Lake City.

“According to court documents, Huddleston was identified entering the U.S. Capitol building at about 3:08 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2021, via the Senate Wing Door. After entering the building, Huddleston made his way toward the Crypt and later exited the building at approximately 3:24 p.m.,” the release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states.

The Attorney’s Office release said that Huddleston allegedly remained on the property for over an hour after his initial entry into the Capitol and joined in one violent confrontation.

“Police line began to push the crowd north, several members of the crowd near Huddleston pushed back against the police line and began fighting with officers,” the release states. “One of the rioters pushing against the police line did so by holding a wooden flagpole horizontally and pushing it into the backs of rioters pushing into police in order to reinforce them. Open-source video footage shows Huddleston allegedly grabbing the pole and joining the other rioter in pushing it as part of the effort to hold back the police line from advancing.”

The Attorney’s Office states the FBI’s Salt Lake City and Washington Field Offices are currently investigating. Assistance was provided by the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
