    U.S. Marshals chase alleged gang member into Idaho, arrest him on drug charges

    BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — An alleged gang member is behind bars in southern Idaho and currently awaits extradition after a chase that started in Box Elder County.

    Deryez Santos Espinoza, 35, was chased down by the U.S. Marshals Office in Malta, Idaho after leading Marshals, Utah Highway Patrol, and Idaho State Police on a multi-state chase.

    The chase began on Wednesday, Aug. 28, around 7 p.m., authorities say.

    According to the U.S. Marshals Office, Espinoza was under investigation for a parole violation. Marshals say it was for possession of firearms, discharge of deadly weapons, and drug distribution.

    Authorities say they tried to stop him in Park Valley when he got into a car and took off towards U.S. 42 North.

    Once Espinoza took off, UHP also got involved along with Utah’s Department of Public Safety.

    Idaho State Police were called to assist as Espinoza crossed into Cassia County, and the Utah Department of Public Safety used a helicopter to follow the suspect, according to the U.S. Marshals.

    The chase ended around 7:30 p.m. when Espinoza surrendered to authorities in Malta.

    Espinoza was booked in Cassia County jail where according to Cassia County Jail records, he is currently awaiting extradition to Utah to stand trial.
