SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — An armed man was arrested on Sunday morning after he allegedly assaulted officers, threatened civilians, and brandished a handgun near a Salt Lake City high school, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Kristopher Michael Parham, 34, is facing six counts of assault on peace officer/military with use of a dangerous weapon, all second-degree felonies; 11 counts of aggravated assault, all third-degree felonies; one count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony; one count of failure to stop at command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor; and one count of interfering with a peace officer, a class B misdemeanor.

According to the affidavit, the incident took place in the 1100 block of E 800 S. just before 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Parham reportedly made threats to several people living in a house and police were informed that he had a handgun. When officers showed up to the scene, Parham reportedly fled.

Four police officers made announcements of their presence and commanded the suspect to stop. The probable cause statement said Parham reached for his gun in the presence of police on multiple occasions, even after police chased him on foot and tackled him.

The affidavit stated six officers were involved in the attempts to detain the man and were “in immediate danger of being shot.”

Police interviewed the person who made the 911 call, and discovered that they were a victim of an aggravated assault. Parham reportedly brandished the handgun to the caller and made a comment saying the person who called police was “dead.”

Police said two other people made contact with the suspect, and he made similar threats toward them.

The affidavit of probable causes said that, in total, 11 people, all of whom were in the house where the incident took place, were affected by the threats.

Parham was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
