UTAH COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office announced that the suspect in an alleged trailer park assault from over the weekend — along with his mother — had been arrested on the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 9.

Kaden Alan Beckstrom, 22, was arrested for one count of assault with substantial injury, a class A misdemeanor; one count of possession or use of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony; and one count of property damage/destruction, a class B misdemeanor, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

According to documents, Beckstrom reportedly went to the victim’s trailer on Sunday afternoon and when the victim opened the door, Beckstrom challenged him to fight. The victim refused, but Beckstrom allegedly began hitting the victim in the head, documents said.

Beckstrom also threw the victim to the ground and continued to attack him, according to the affidavit.

After officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with Beckstrom’s mother, who said Beckstrom had just left her trailer on foot after saying he couldn’t stay.

On Monday, officers returned to the trailer park to speak with the victim, who told police that his security camera had been removed from his trailer and thrown into the woods the day before.

Officials saw Beckstrom walking back toward his mother’s trailer — which was next door to the victim’s — on Monday and took him into custody.

He later told officers he returned to the trailer Monday morning, but his mother told him he shouldn’t be there because his name was on the news, the sheriff’s office said. However, UCSO said Beckstrom stayed and his mother did not alert authorities, despite previously telling officers she would contact them if her son returned.

Beckstrom’s mother was arrested for obstruction of justice, a class A misdemeanor; and possession of methamphetamine, a class A misdemeanor, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said both Beckstrom and his mother are on probation for prior convictions, and documents said Beckstrom tested positive for meth and THC after his arrest.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
