RIVERTON, Utah (ABC4) — A 5-year-old child suffered non-life-threatening injuries on Monday morning after being hit by a car on Sanborn Drive in Riverton, according to police.

Police say they were called to Sanborn Drive just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, after reports of a child being hit by a car.

According to Riverton Police , the child ran across the street before the bus came to a complete stop. The bus driver tried to alert oncoming traffic to the child in the roadway but a car travelling in the eastbound direction hit the child.

The child, identified only as a boy, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The boy was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. The child was discharged from the hospital later in the day Monday. Police said they did not cite the driver.

Riverton Police did have a message for drivers after the incident: “You can do everything right when driving and obey every traffic law and a child may still get into the roadway and into danger. Always stay alert while driving and take extra caution around school busses.”
