SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Good Things Utah)- Put on your tennis shoes and walk for a great cause! This Saturday, American Heart Association in partnership with Rio Tinto Kennecott will be hosting an event here in Utah, the Heart and Stroke Walk. Spokesperson Jarreau Smith joined GTU today to spread awareness for heart health and talk about the event.

Heart issues are the leading cause of death in the US, and 1 in 4 Utahns do not have their blood pressure in check. Smith says this walk will “help bring more awareness.” The event will be sponsored by Rio Tinto Kennecott. They have partnered with organizations such as the Navajo Health System to help communities in need here in Utah, who have helped over 19,000 patients enjoy healthier lifestyles. The event will include vendors, clinics, and doctors, and will bring more awareness for heart health.

“That’s a huge point.” Smith said. “Living the healthy lifestyle we all want to live.” He also says, “The American Heart Association team does a great job at providing a fun, safe environment for everyone to enjoy and bring awareness to it.”

The event will be held at Sugarhouse Park. The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 14. The event is free for anyone to enjoy–even dogs can participate in the walk! Spots are still available. You can register at heartwalkutah.org.
