SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – Freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson is expected to make his first career start for the Utes this Saturday at Utah State, with starter Cam Rising still nursing a finger injury.

Brett McMurphy from ActionNetwork reported that Rising is “unlikely” to play in the 113th edition of the Battle of the Brothers in Logan Saturday afternoon.

Rising injured his finger near the end of the first half of Utah’s 23-12 win over Baylor Saturday, when he was shoved into some water coolers while scrambling out of bounds.

The report says Rising is expected back for Utah’s Big 12 Conference opener at Oklahoma State September 21st.

Wilson finished the game against Baylor, but completed just 4 of 9 passes for 30 yards. In the season opener against Southern Illinois, Wilson completed 7 of 11 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown.

“I wish I could have had some plays back for sure,” Wilson said on Monday. “I feel like I took care of the ball well, but still left left a couple of plays out there. I wish I had them back, but there is a lot more to improve on.”

On Monday, Whittingham said, “We won’t say who is going to play quarterback even when we know,” Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham said. “It’s just not how it’s how we do it. So so we’ll see what happens.”

Utah and Utah State will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Maverik Stadium.
