OREM, Utah (ABC4) — An Orem man is accused of attempted murder after reportedly trying to shoot a family member during an argument on Sept. 17.

According to the probable cause statement, police were called to a home in the 900 West block of 600 North in Orem around midnight Wednesday. Dispatch received a call where shouting in Spanish could be heard before the call disconnected. Police stated that the call disconnected several times.

Police showed up at the address and a woman answered the door and told police that she fought with a man. The woman would not answer any other questions and officers left the scene.

A separate complaint came in just before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning that stated the occupants of the adjacent address had found a bullet hole in the shared wall as the home is a duplex.

Police spoke to the victim who stated that several related people lived with her and the woman had been verbally arguing with one of the members of the household when the incident occurred.

The woman had brought another member of the house in to defend her, after which Guevara got offended and grabbed a handgun. The person defending the woman fled the home and stayed at a hotel.

Guevara reportedly said the reason he grabbed the weapon was for self-defense. The woman said that she and Guevara struggled over the gun briefly causing the round to be fired into the wall.

Guevara was arrested and booked in Utah County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
