    Friday 4: Hot air balloons and lanterns take to Utah skies this weekend

    SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Get ready for this weekend with our Friday 4. There are plenty of fun activities to join, such as launching lanterns, seeing hot air balloons, walking for an important cause, or watching historical re-enactments.

    Lantern Festivals:

    Night Lights in Grantsville:

    Where: Deseret Peak Complex , 2930 UT-112, Grantsville, UT 84029

    When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.

    What: If you want to see lanterns light up the sky, you might want to head to Night Lights in Grantsville this weekend. In addition to the lantern launch, there will also be food, games, music, and entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to arrive no later than 6 p.m. so they have ample time to avoid traffic and pick up their lanterns. The lantern launch is typically 90 minutes after sunset, weather-dependent. Tickets can be bought online ahead of time and are currently at $59 for last-call pricing. Children age 7 and older must have a general admission ticket.

    Utah County Lantern Festival:

    Where: Lindon Marina, 4400 W Vineyard Rd, Vineyard

    When: Sept. 21 from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.

    What: Utah’s Lantern Festival will be hosting an event at the Lindon Marina this weekend. Lanterns will be released onto the Lindon Marina as the sun sets, against the background of Utah County’s mountains. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time, with deals currently going on for General Admission, Date Night, and Family Bundle.

    Freedom’s Light Festival

    Where: Bountiful Park, 400 N 200 W Bountiful

    When: Sept. 20 – 21, opens at 9 a.m.

    What: Bountiful’s Freedom’s Light Festival is coming up this weekend, featuring booths, shows, and activities for the family to enjoy, including reenactments and live cannon demonstrations. According to the website, the Freedom’s Light Festival celebrates “America, our Constitution and the people who created it.” The event is free to attend. View a full schedule of events online.

    Utah Hot Air Balloon Palooza

    Where: Cottonwood High School, 5715 S 1300 E, Murray

    When: Sept. 21 – 22

    What: Watch hot air balloons take the skies this weekend in Murray. At the Utah Hot Air Balloon Palooza, there will be a balloon launch, tethered balloon rides, food trucks, and vendors. On Saturday, Sept. 21, the event will be taking place from both 7 – 10 a.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. and on Sunday it will run from 7 – 10 a.m., with the final balloon launch at 7:30 a.m. Learn more online.

    Shine a Light NF Walk Utah

    Where: Sugar House Park (Sugar Beet Pavilion)

    When: Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

    What: This Saturday, the Children’s Tumor Foundation will be hosting a fundraising walk to help end Neurofibromatosis (NF), a group of genetic conditions of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on nerves anywhere in the body. Register or donate online. In addition to the walk, there will also be a dinner, games, face painting, music, and more.
