TOOELE, Utah (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is getting set to welcome people of all faiths to see inside the Deseret Peak Temple in Tooele with an open house set to start next Thursday.

The newest temple for the Utah-based church will open for tours of the temple on Thursday, Sept. 26, and will continue through Oct. 19, excluding Sundays and Saturday, Oct. 5, due to the LDS Church General Conference.

The Deseret Peak Temple will be the twenty-first temple in the state open to members of the Church. Reservations can be made for the open house on the Church’s website .

“The temple is the house of the Lord. In temples, God’s children draw nearer to Him and His Son Jesus Christ by making sacred promises with Him,” the Church states on its website.

Members consider these buildings as the most sacred space where they can go worship.

“Temples are places of reverent worship where members strive to commune with God. Members are taught important gospel truths, such as the plan of happiness offered by our Heavenly Father, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the divine nature of each person, and the great blessings offered to all of God’s children,” the Church says.

The Church says this is a unique opportunity for non-members to view the temple and enjoy the grounds before it is dedicated in November. The Church will dedicate the temple on November 10.

Since the founding of the church in 1830, church leaders have announced over 300 temples all over the world.

LDS Church President Russell M. Nelson announced the temple as the “Tooele Valley Utah Temple” in 2019. The church broke ground on the temple in 2021, completing the multi-story building earlier this year.
