SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy weekend, Utah! We saw isolated storms in parts of Central and Southern Utah to close out the workweek, but moisture is on the move for the first part of our weekend with a shifting threat for isolated thunderstorms.

While the main track of the low is located south of Utah, its exit from the region will bring some impacts to the Beehive State today. The low tracks east this morning, then lifts northeast and while the system will eventually pull away from Utah Sunday, we will see moisture potential and energy shift to eastern, central and southern Utah today. The Wasatch Front has the chance of an isolated storm as well.

Due to the movement of the low, storms will actually track east, so a different storm motion ahead. The counterclockwise flow around the low will drag moisture potential into parts of the state, leading to an increased chance for scattered showers and storms, especially for areas east of I-15. Storm potential moves through South Central Utah in the morning hours and pushes north into places like Central Utah, Castle Country, the Wasatch Back and even parts by the afternoon and evening.

Once the storm system departs, we will have a quieter Sunday on deck with pleasant temperatures statewide with a range of 70s-90º and an ample amount of sunshine. It’s also the kickoff of autumn with the equinox occurring at 6:43 a.m. in Utah on Sunday. It will be a gorgeous start to the fall season with dry skies and lovely temperatures.

Highs will begin to warm up into the 80s and eventually back near 90° moving into next week for southern Utah with high temperatures for the first week of fall — in the 70s with morning lows in the 40s and 50s for northern Utah. As we start next week, a weak cold front will graze Northern Utah bringing the possibility of enhanced canyon winds as that system passes to our east. We know what downslope means along the Wasatch Front, so we will of course, keep you forewarned!

Bottom Line? A passing storm system will bring isolated thunderstorms back to parts of Utah this afternoon and into the first part of the weekend.
