Juvenile arrested after ‘family fight’ leaves 1 dead

DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a juvenile male in connection to the shooting death of another juvenile on Sunday, Sept. 22, according to a press release.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said deputies were dispatched to “a report of a family fight” that involved a firearm being used. When they arrived at the scene, officials found the dead juvenile inside the home with a gunshot wound in his upper body.

The arrested juvenile was taken to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office for questioning before he was taken to the Split Mountain Youth Detention Center in Vernal. The sheriff’s office said it began an investigation into what led to the other juvenile’s death.

No other family members were in the home at the time of the incident, but officials did not disclose the nature of the relationship between the victim and the arrested suspect.

“Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, and out of respect for the family the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing the names of the suspect or the decedent at this time,” DCSO said in a press release.
