SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC4) — A 20-year-old South Salt Lake woman was arrested early Monday morning and currently faces a felony kidnapping charge after she allegedly kidnapped her three-year-old brother.

Carmin Nelson was arrested for kidnapping of a child after she reportedly kidnapped her brother.

According to the probable cause statement from South Salt Lake Police, Nelson, her friend, and her father came over to the residence of the victim and took the child during an argument.

The victim stated she was pulled out of a vehicle by Nelson’s friend before Nelson grabbed the toddler and put him in her vehicle, while Nelson’s friend reportedly held the victim on the ground against her will. Once the child was in the vehicle, the trio left with the child and returned to the father’s residence.

Police say Nelson returned to the scene and allegedly confessed to the kidnapping. The child was uninjured during the process. A witness took a video, which was then shown to the police.

Nelson was booked on the previously mentioned charge.

No further information is currently available.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

My question is WHY wasn't the father, obviously the oldest adult present, who SHOULD HAVE had the foresight & state of mind that TAKING ( KIDNAPPING) a child obviously not in their custody would have been a bad idea. The way the article is written suggests that ( the father) was the charged women's father, NOT the toddlers father, correct? It's called custodial interference & REGARDLESS what those 3 participants in this ruse think is best for the child, the court systems think differently & they SHOULD HAVE KNOWN serious charges would be levied. Why isn't the ( friend) who held the mother down being charged.Regardless of one's opinion we MUST follow laws & statutes put in place, not just feel free to remove a child, unless life threatening circumstances & if the child is in danger, why haven't they proven to LEO & presiding courts that's the case. This isn't the wild west, we can't be removing children cause WE feel it's better.
