Update, 5:47 p.m.:
UTAH COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that two males were on the plane during the crash. No bodies have been recovered at this time.
Based on information from witnesses, and from all information gathered, the sheriff’s office said they believe the two males to be deceased. Their identities have not been released.
The plane reportedly crashed half a mile north of the Provo airport, into the Utah Lake. Authorities are currently working to recover the aircraft and find the two males.
Authorities were called to the scene around 10:10 a.m. on reports of a plane crash. Officials say the plane was cleared to land at the Provo airport, but “unfortunately it crashed right before the runway.” At least one person was on the plane.
Search and rescue crews — including divers — responded to the area this morning and are still on scene. The wreckage from the plane has been located but the pilot has not yet been found, according to the most recent update.
While there were reports of it being a single-engine plane, authorities cannot confirm that information at this time as the aircraft is submerged. There were several witness accounts of the crash from boaters on the lake.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Crews are expected to be on the scene for several hours as they look for any passengers, work to secure the wreckage, and check for a possible fuel leak.
This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
