    ‘Yellow Lake Fire’ jumps to 1.5K acres, closes Highway 35

    UPDATE 9/29 6:30 p.m. — The “Yellow Lake Fire” burned approximately 1,500 acres as of Sunday evening — increasing from an initial estimated size of 150 acres earlier in the day, according to Utah Fire Info.

    The fire is “burning in timber and standing dead and down timber,” Utah Fire Info said. The blaze crossed onto the east side of Highway 35, prompting a closure of the road around mile marker 12.

    Several resources were fighting the blaze on Sunday evening, including five engines, four air tankers, two crews, and two helicopters. Officials said more resources were being ordered.

    “An area closure is being put into place for public safety, all campers within the closed area, including Soapstone Basin area are being asked to leave,” Utah Fire Info said in a social media update .

    HEBER, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A new wildfire has started in the Heber-Kamas Ranger District, according to Utah Fire Info.

    The wildfire, dubbed the “Yellow Lake Fire,” is reportedly around 150 acres in size at this time. It is located southeast of Mill Hollow Reservoir.

    Resources are currently on scene, including five engines, two helicopters, and two fire crews. The blaze is burning in timber and standing dead and down timber, officials said.

    “There will be an area closure put in place for public safety, all campers within the closed area are being asked to leave,” Utah Fire Info posted on social media . “The closed area boundaries are mill hollow on the west side, Highway 35 on north, wolf creek campground on east and Duschene ridge on south.”

    Smoke is reportedly visible from surrounding areas. Officials ask that you do not call in to report.
