Utah Royals beat Racing Lousiville 1-0

SANDY, Utah — In their third-to-last home game of the season, Utah Royals FC beat Racing Louisville 1-0 off of a goal from Ana Tejada. There were chances from both sides during the match, but only one shot made it into the back of the net on the night.

The night was rough, injury-wise, for the Royals as starting goalkeeper Mandy Haught was injured in warmups and replaced by Christina Roque before the game began. Team captain Paige Monaghan was injured only 7 minutes into the game and had to be subbed out. Later on in the first half, Dana Foederer suffered an injury and was subbed out at halftime.

Despite the injuries, the Royals seemed to control the game for most of the match. Their first chances came in the 14th minute when both Cam Tucker and Dana Foederer looked to shoot the ball at the goal. Zoe Burns also had a shot in the 14th minute. The chances kept on coming for the Royals until the ref called for halftime.

During the second half, Racing Louisville had a few chances of their own. One was saved by Ana Tejada, and a couple were saved by Christina Roque. The defense also had a couple of stops. In total, the Royals had 17 shots, 5 of which were on target. Racing Louisville only had 11 shots with 2 on target. The teams kept exchanging shots in the second half until in the 78th minute, Ana Tejada took a shot outside the box and scored.

The Utah Royals only have four games left, two of them at home. They play away at Portland, on Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. The next home game is Oct. 13, at 3 p.m., against the Seattle Reign.
