SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) – Happy Monday, Utah! A nice break from the extreme heat for this time of year in northern Utah as temperatures have cooled roughly 15 degrees from Sunday’s highs. However, southern Utah is seeing record-breaking heat.

The cooldown is thanks to a cold front that moved through the area overnight but only brings relief to the state’s northern half. In St. George, more record heat is sticking around throughout much of the workweek with triple-digit temperatures forecast through midweek.

Daytime highs will be in the 70s for much of northern Utah today with some areas hitting 80 degrees, mainly 80s and 90s for southern Utah with the exception of St. George.

As triple-digit heat is expected for St. George, this will make it the latest triple-digit day on record, and it probably won’t be the last time this season. Temperatures in the 100s could hold onto Washington County as late as midweek, challenging records along the way.

As for the Wasatch Front, Monday will be the coolest day this workweek, but it’ll warm back up to the mid-80s by Wednesday.

The high pressure responsible for the heat is also keeping things dry. We will close out the month with most places seeing well below half of the monthly average, and the St. George Airport has not seen a single drop of rain all month. Dry conditions stick around through the week without a hint of moisture until Sunday, but even that is still up in the air.
