Summer holds on with warming temperatures across Utah

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) – Happy Tuesday, Utah! Record-challenging heat is holding on in the south and the north is slowly warming back up as high pressure regains control of the weather pattern.

The bottom line? Record-challenging heat for the south and cooler in the north, but still above average heat and warming up.

Daytime highs in the north will be in the upper 70s to low 80s for valleys and low to mid-70s for the Wasatch Back. While it’s cooler than what we’ve seen lately, it still runs about 5-8 degrees above seasonal norms, but it’s much better than the 8-15 degrees above average that the south is seeing. That spells mid-80s for most south of I-70 with mid to upper 90s in the typically warmer spots, and triple-digits are possible for some areas near St. George.

Yesterday, St. George hit 101 degrees, making it the latest triple-digit day ever recorded, and more triple-digits are on deck. Washington County will bounce between high 90s to low 100s for the remainder of the week, challenging records along the way. The Wasatch Front should warm back up to the mid-80s by tomorrow before a slight dip Thursday, and then back to the upper 80s on Friday.

The high pressure responsible for the heat is also keeping things dry. We’re closing out the month with most places seeing well below half of the monthly average, and St. George did not see a single drop of rain all month.

Dry conditions stick around through the week without a hint of moisture until the weekend, but even that will likely not bring more than a mix of sun and clouds.
