Relentless record heat for southern Utah

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! It was a nice and crisp morning across northern Utah following the cold front Monday.

The cooler air didn’t reach all of southern Utah and the southernmost areas are still dealing with record high territory temperatures.

Summer holds on with warming temperatures across Utah

St. George has a record-high temperature of 99 degrees today, and the forecast calls for 100 degrees through Wednesday. This means that these will be the latest triple-digit days ever recorded for St. George.

A dry, northwest flow is in place across the northern half of the state thanks to a big ridge sitting off the California coast. That means dry weather is sticking around for the next few days.

In northern Utah, temperatures remain in the upper 70s and low 80s today with warmer temperatures moving in through Wednesday. Temperatures will be around 10 degrees hotter than what we’d normally expect this time of year.

And in southern Utah? It’s even more extreme, some spots are looking at highs 15 degrees above average.

Looking ahead to Thursday morning and beyond, there’s a weak, cool front that’ll skim through northern Utah, but don’t get too excited, it’s not going to cool things down much.

We’re still looking at temps anywhere from 7 to 15 degrees higher than what’s normal for early October. By Friday, we’ll be back to the high 80s along the Wasatch Front and pushing 100 degrees in spots like Zion and Washington County. More record-setting heat!

As we head into the weekend, a weak system will brush by, bringing a few clouds and maybe even some gusty winds. But don’t count on any real rain; if anything, it’ll just be a sprinkle here or there.

After that, it’s back to warm, dry, and more of the same into next week. Temps will stay way above normal, and it’s going to feel more like early September than October.

Precipitation chances? Slim to none. In fact, the earliest we might see any measurable rain is sometime later next week and even then, it’s pretty iffy.

So, if you’re loving this extended summer weather, you’re in luck. It’s sticking around for a while! We’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest developments and any new records in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
