Pedestrian walking on sidewalk killed after vehicle crashed into nearby parked car

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A woman walking on the sidewalk in Salt Lake City was killed after a driver lost control of their vehicle just before noon on Wednesday, according to Salt Lake City Police .

Authorities say a vehicle driving north on 700 East near 740 South lost control and hit a parked car in the area. The parked car was reportedly pushed into a woman who was walking on the sidewalk and pinned her between the vehicle and a fence. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

The SLCPD’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Team is currently investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities say there were no signs of driver impairment and the driver has been cooperating with police during the investigation.

Authorities are working to identify the victim. They are also working with nearby businesses and homes to obtain any possible footage of the crash. If anyone witnessed the incident or has information regarding the crash, police ask that they call 801-799-3000.

“It’s really early in the investigation right now,” Public Information Officer Yaier Javaid said. “We’re just asking our community members to be safe, either driving or using sidewalks … be cognizant of your surroundings, just always pay attention.”

Detectives are also investigating an unrelated crash nearby on 800 South 600 East. They have not released any additional information about the second incident.
