    Girl, 12, dies after crash in Salt Lake City’s Ballpark neighborhood

    SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A 12-year-old girl has passed away after being critically injured in a crash in Salt Lake City’s Ballpark neighborhood late Sept., according to Salt Lake City Police.

    At around 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 24, police received reports of a crash involving six cars.

    According to police, five vehicles were stopped at a red light at 300 West 1700 South. A small SUV reportedly did not slow down and crashed into the back of one of the cars, causing a chain reaction crash.

    Fire and medical personnel responded to the scene and took a 12-year-old girl to the hospital in critical condition.

    The child has since died from her injuries, according to a press release from SLCPD. Her identity is not being released.

    All drivers involved in the crash remained on scene and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. This crash marked the ninth traffic-related death in Salt Lake City for 2024.
