    One killed in downtown Salt Lake City shooting, suspect identified and arrested

    UPDATE 10/05 7:30 p.m. — Officials have released the name of the suspect who was arrested in connection to a downtown Salt Lake shooting that left one man dead.

    Farshad Hassan-Pouri, 49, was arrested for murder and felony discharge of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, according to a Saturday night update from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

    Detectives with SLCPD’s Homicide Squad responded to the scene and learned that the suspect and the victim, a 30-year-old man, had gotten into a verbal argument. Police said the “circumstance of the argument” is still under investigation.

    Hassan-Pouri is accused of taking out a gun and shooting the victim before allegedly chasing the victim and shooting again.

    Witnesses followed Hassan-Pouri and alerted officers to his location. When he was arrested near 200 East 300 South, officers found a firearm in his possession.

    SLCPD did not release the name of the victim in the most recent update.

    Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

    UPDATE 10/05 3 p.m. — One man has died after a shooting in downtown Salt Lake City on Saturday afternoon, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department .

    Police said the shooting is now under investigation, and a suspect is in custody after the incident. Police received reports of a shooting near 200 South State Street just after 12:15 p.m. and responded to the scene.

    When officers responded to the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound in a parking lot behind the Maverik building at 185 South State Street. Officials attempted life-saving measures but the man died on the scene.

    A suspect was arrested near 200 South 3000 East, and while the “specific circumstances of the shooting are unknown,” the incident “does not appear to be random,” police said.

    “There is no information to suggest the shooting had any connection to General Conference 2024,” SLCPD said in a press release Saturday afternoon.

    Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to call 801-799-3000 and ask to speak with an officer. Officials are also seeking potential photos and videos of the incident.

    “There are no road closures associated with this incident,” SLCPD said. “However, several sidewalks near the crime scene are closed to preserve evidence on scene.”

    Salt Lake City is slowly turning into these other west coast states with all the shootings. I mean it's going to take a while, but it's already there with the drugs use, and Drug dealers.
