Above-normal heat remains in Utah with high pressure in place

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Monday, Utah! It’s been a gorgeous start to the day with above-normal temperatures continuing statewide with most areas 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

This means daytime highs will reach the low- to mid-80s for much of northern Utah while the southern half of the state will see 80s and 90s. Some moisture will rotate into the state under southwest flow, and partly cloudy skies are expected this evening into Tuesday.

Above average highs stay in Utah but a cool down could be on the horizon

While moisture will be limited tonight, a high-based shower is possible over the mountain regions with a risk of gusty winds for the valleys. The best chance of any showers today will be over west-central Utah.

On Tuesday, we’ll see a bit more of this moisture moving across the area. Nothing too dramatic, though — just some isolated, mountain-based showers pushing further north by Tuesday afternoon.

Not much rain is expected, but keep an eye out for some quick, gusty winds in the afternoon that could linger just after sunset.

Aside from that, it’s going to stay warmer than usual, so we’re not breaking out the sweaters anytime soon!

Nothing too exciting on the weather front for the rest of the week. A big ridge stretching from southern California up to the northern plains will keep things pretty steady.

Expect more of the same: Warm, dry, and a bit hotter than normal. Northern Utah will see highs in the low to mid 80s, and southern Utah will hang in the upper 80s to mid 90s.

As we get closer to the weekend, things could get a little more interesting. There’s a chance an approaching system might bring some cooler air and a small chance of rain, but about half of the forecasts suggest we’ll stay warm and dry. If that system does come through, temps might dip by about 5 degrees, but it’s a bit of a toss-up right now.
