4Warn Weather: High pressure will keep Utah toasty with hot and dry weather into weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Hey there, Utah! We made it halfway through the workweek and the weather continues to feel more like late summer than fall.

So, what’s the bottom line? High pressure will keep Utah toasty with hot and dry weather persisting into the weekend, and it’s not going anywhere soon.

Northern Utah will see even warmer temperatures today, thanks to clearer skies, with many spots getting close to record highs. Salt Lake City is forecasted to hit 86° today and 87° Thursday, both just shy of the 88° daily record.

In St. George, near-record heat continues with temperatures in the mid-90s for Lower Washington County today and Thursday, shy of the 98° record high for both days as well.

There’s a slight chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm over the Uintas and near Boulder Mountain, but overall, it’ll stay warm and dry. Smoke from the Yellow Lake fire is also expected to settle overnight around Heber, Kamas, and the western Uinta Basin.

Looking ahead to Friday and beyond, not much will change at first. High pressure will slowly weaken as a low-pressure system moves into the Pacific Northwest this weekend.

This system is expected to bring more clouds and gradually cooler temperatures, dropping about 10° by mid-next week. There’s still some uncertainty about the exact timing and strength of this low, but for now, I’m keeping in a slight chance of showers statewide Sunday into Monday as models continue to hammer out more of the details.
