Orem man charged over 50 times in rash of Utah Co. thefts

OREM, Utah (ABC4) — An Orem man has been formally charged by the Utah County Attorney’s Office for several crimes related to a rash of thefts around Utah County.

Jordan Rex Olsen, 40, was charged with one count of pattern of unlawful activity, 13 counts of mail theft, 18 counts of unlawful possession of another’s identification documents, 20 counts of unlawful acquisition, possession, or transfer of a financial transaction card, all of which are felony charges.

Olsen was also charged with two counts of possession or use of a controlled substance, class A misdemeanors, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

The charging documents included a probable cause statement from BYU Police relating to a string of thefts on and around the BYU Campus in Provo.

According to the charging documents, BYU Police were called to a self-storage facility on Provo’s south side in regard to stolen property. Police received permission from Olsen to search his unit. Provo police were looking for two bikes alleged to have been stolen by Olsen. Charging documents state police found the stolen property.

Several other bikes were reported to be found in the storage unit.

This led police to obtain additional search warrants, which included warrants to search for narcotics, personal identity cards with names other than the defendant’s, and stolen parcels.

Olsen was arrested and booked on the aforementioned charges and is currently listed on the Utah County Jail roster.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
