Southbound I-15 closed near North Ogden due to life-threatening four-car crash

FARR WEST, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A life-threatening crash involving four vehicles in Farr West near Ogden completely shut down the southbound lanes of I-15 early Friday morning, Oct. 11.

Lt. Cameron Roden told ABC4.com the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on the 2700 North on-ramp near mile marker 349. For “an unknown reason,” a Jeep rear-ended a Ford Explorer in front of it. The Jeep then crossed the gore area into the southbound lanes of I-15 where it was struck by a semi-truck.

After striking the Jeep, the semi-truck veered left where it also hit a Kia Optima. Roden said the Kia was forced over the concrete barricade separating north and southbound traffic and came to a rest on its roof in northbound traffic.

Roden said the driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and suffered critical injuries. She was flown to a local area hospital where she is still undergoing treatment as of 11 a.m. All other drivers involved in the crash suffered only minor injuries and were treated on scene.

The crash heavily impacted traffic in both directions on I-15 in the hours immediately after. The southbound lanes of I-15 toward Salt Lake City were shut down completely while a single lane on northbound I-15 was blocked. Drivers were warned to expect delays of more than 30 minutes in both directions while officials investigated and cleared the scene.

Just before 11 a.m., Lt. Cameron Roden confirmed the interstate had reopened in both directions. However, the Utah Department of Transportation still warns drivers that heavy delays will remain in both directions.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes in the area, including 2000 West, Rulon White Boulevard, or the US-89 Highway.
