SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — No, your eyes don’t deceive you: The Wasatch Front is expected to see a dramatic drop in temperatures at the end of next week.

After what has felt like weeks of near-record-breaking heat, temperatures in Salt Lake City are expected to take a 20-degree drop into highs that are typical for this time of year heading into the weekend of Oct. 18.

It’s still a little bit too early to tell what exactly the temperatures will be heading into next weekend, according to ABC4 Meteorologist Cedric Haynes, but Utahns can expect a much cooler, more fall-like October.

“Currently, the latest data is indicating high temperatures may actually fall a little below our normal temperatures,” said Haynes. “Our normal high along the Wasatch Front is in the upper 60s with normal overnight lows in the 40s.”

The 4Warn 7-Day Forecast for Saturday, Oct. 12, to Friday, Oct. 18.

As of Friday, Oct. 11, the National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 64 degrees at the end of next week. That comes with an overnight low of 49 degrees and a slight chance of rain in the Salt Lake Valley.

Haynes said this is probably very welcome news for Utahns who are done with all the record-setting days we’ve seen through October.

“The abrupt change to much cooler weather may come as a bit of shock to some next week, so now may be the time to begin searching for those hoodies and sweatshirts, before the true fall-like temps arrive in Utah,” said Haynes.
