SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 / NewsNation ) — With the 2024 general election fast approaching on Nov. 5, many Americans will look to vote early to avoid Election Day lines and potential confusion.

The early voting windows vary by state, with some states opening in-person and absentee voting as early as Sept. 20. In the Beehive State, early voting will begin on Oct. 22 and continue through Nov. 1.

How to register to vote in Utah in time for the Nov. 5, 2024 general election

Here are a few things to know about early voting — and registering — ahead of the election.

In Utah, early voting is from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1, and online or mail-in registration must be completed by Oct. 25, 2024. You can register to vote as late as Election Day — on Nov. 5 — but you must bring two valid forms of identification .

To register to vote in Utah:

If you want to learn how to contact your county clerk, you can find your clerk’s information on this list provided by vote.utah.gov .

If you are returning your ballot by mail, it must be postmarked by Nov. 4, 2024. Ballots are expected to be sent to voters by Oct. 15, with the last day to request a mail ballot being Oct. 29.

Who is running for office in Utah for the Nov. 5, 2024 general election?

If you want to register to vote in Utah , you must be a resident of the United States, reside in Utah for at least 30 days prior to the next election, and be at least 18 years old on or before the general election.

If you want to vote but are unsure if you have already registered, you can check your status online at votesearch.utah.gov . To check your registration status, you must provide your name, date of birth, and address.

Once you register to vote in Utah, you don’t need to re-register unless your registration status changes — for example, if you moved out of Utah and then returned, moved counties, changed your legal name, or your registration has lapsed.

If you’re curious about the other states and their deadlines (in alphabetical order), continue reading below. Here’s a look at when early voting begins in the other 49 states, along with information on how to register to vote and how to check your registration status in your state.
