SOUTH JORDAN, Utah ( ABC4 ) — Officials are searching for at least one suspect after an alleged domestic violence situation led to a hit-and-run and police chase on Monday evening.

Shaun Becker, a public information officer with the South Jordan Police Department , told ABC4.com that South Jordan officers assisted the West Jordan Police Department in responding to an alleged domestic violence situation happening inside a vehicle on Monday.

Detective Dirk Petersen with West Jordan police said the suspect vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run near 10400 S and Redwood Road. Becker said there were no reported injuries after the crash.

Petersen said officers did not pursue the driver because of traffic on Redwood Road, and the suspect reportedly abandoned the vehicle around 2200 W and 10400 S after the crash.

Officers later responded to calls of two men running through a neighborhood near Bingham High School and chased the men as they ran through the field at the school.

Becker said there was no lockdown or safety threat to students, but the band students who were practicing on the field were told to go inside the school until officers said to come out. Officers used drones and K-9 units to search the area, but the search was later called off.

Petersen told ABC4.com that one of the men jumped into a canal near Redwood Road, and officers lost sight of the other man.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials said there is no existing threat to Bingham High.

Aubree B. Jennings and MJ Jewkes contributed to this report.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
