SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Maverik often advertises itself as “Adventure’s First Stop” — but now it can say it’s home to “ America’s Best Restroom ,” too.

A Maverik gas station in Salt Lake City won the 23rd annual “America’s Best Restroom” contest — a yearly contest put on by Cintas Corporation , which offers restroom restocking supplies, among other cleaning products.

Yes, there really is a sphinx in Utah with the face of the first LDS leader

Maverik’s submission photos featured its “ sparkling fixtures, spacious stalls and fresh amenities .” Maverik boasts more than 500 stores in 13 western states — but the winning location can be found at 279 S. 5600 W, according to a press release.

“It truly is an honor to be recognized by Cintas and our customers for creating restrooms with a hygienic and comforting atmosphere,” Maverik’s Chief Retail Officer Ryan Boothe said.

The runners-up of the 2024 contest included a disco party bathroom , a bathroom full of mirrors and neon lights , and a very reflective 80s-inspired restroom in a brunch restaurant, among others.

Maverik made it to the top 10 finalists and ultimately won, beating out the following restrooms (in alphabetical order): Hop Shops in Kentucky, Indiana Caverns in Indiana, Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium in Missouri, Lambeau Field in Wisconsin, MAD in Texas, Maximilian Motorsports in Washington, Morning Glory in California, Natchez Trace State Park Visitor Center in Tennessee, and Throne Restrooms in Maryland, according to Cintas.

As the winner, Maverik won a Cintas cleaning service and $2,500 in Cintas products and services to maintain facilities. Maverik also won a “coveted spot” in the Hall of Fame for the country’s best restrooms .

Past winners include the restrooms in Arizona’s OdySea Aquarium with windows to the shark exhibit , an Ohio pizza restaurant, and several airports. The Hall of Fame featuring the full list of past winners can be found online .

    Background

The contest began back in April 2024 — but it was not open to just any restroom in the country.

“Only washrooms/restrooms in the United States that are open to the public are eligible for consideration under this Contest,” the official rules state .

Additionally, finalists from past contests are ineligible to enter again “unless otherwise decided” by the sponsor. Restrooms owned by the sponsor or any companies or individuals associated with it are also ineligible.

Anyone is able to nominate a restroom, but the owner of the restroom must consent to participate in the contest.

Finalists were selected by judges looking at the restrooms’ “(a) cleanliness; (b) visual appeal; (c) innovation; (d) functionality; and (e) unique design elements,” according to the contest rules. The public voting period took place from July 15 and ended Aug. 16.

I think the 7-Eleven’s are one of the worst. Very plain and small.
