“Expect heavy delays and avoid the area if possible,” UDOT said in a traffic advisory on Wednesday night.

Officials said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a blue pickup truck broke down in the HOV lane. The driver of the vehicle reportedly got out of the truck to wait for help, and his hazards were not working.

A vehicle reportedly swerved and hit the man while he was standing in the shoulder lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said there is a detour in effect for the area. There is no further information at this time.
